Even in summer the temperature of the Bow River seldom rises above 10 C (50 F) and for six months of the year it is never above freezing. In spring and summer it swells with melting snow and glacial meltwater. As the days grow cooler, the river slows and its level drops. By winter, the Bow looks more like its source - a ribbon of ice.
